ARC Ento Tech, the waste-to-energy startup from New South Wales, has acquired $5 million to develop three high-tech plants at the landfill sites of Greater Sydney in an attempt to prove that its new, innovative technology on converting waste into something commercially viable is viable. The recent funding, led by MCCI Corporation, brings the total funds acquired by the firm since it was established back in 2020 to $6.25 million. At the moment, it stands at a valuation of $20 million.
The ARC Ento Tech’s main technology is named the ARC Process, designed to strongly convert various forms of waste into eco-friendly, marketable products. These products include high-quality insect meal, nutrient-rich fertilizer, and a novel industrial reductant that can replace coking coal. This ARC Process will combine biological and mechanical processes for transforming mixed solid waste into valuable commodities. The system is filed for a patent and has the potential to change the face of waste management while assisting the world toward sustainability.
ARC Ento Tech co-founder and managing director Ramon Atayde said that the new funding is an expression of confidence in the commercial potential of renewable energy solutions in Australia. He added that the company’s objective is to address critical global challenges such as carbon emissions and landfill overuse. “We are proving that waste does not have to be a problem; it can be a solution,” Atayde said. “By transforming waste into valuable resources, we’re building a business model that can be adopted globally.”
Since its inception, ARC Ento Tech has been licensed to deploy its technology in North America and Africa. It is working with Entoq, a private firm, to roll out the ARC Process in Canada and is in discussions with Ento Tech Africa to enter Kenya. Solutions developed by the company form part of a global effort to decrease landfill dependence, reduce carbon emissions, and create circular economies.
ARC Ento Tech does not adopt the traditional technologies of waste-to-energy, such as incineration of wastes. The company recovers, reforms, and repurposes all components in the waste stream, preserving value to other industries. This is regarded as more sustainable than conventional waste-to-energy methods.
The company will allocate $800,000 to expand its existing Somersby, NSW, facility, while the balance will be used to construct two new plants in Sydney. ARC Ento Tech is a leader in the global waste management and renewable energy sectors, considering an estimated 2.12 billion tonnes of waste that are produced annually worldwide.
